Roulette is a game found in just about every casino in the world, both online and off. Its name is derived from an old French board game and means little wheel or small wheel. Roulette uses a wheel with either 37 or 38 pockets around the outside, a ball to spin inside the wheel and a table marked with all the numbers on the wheel and places to place bets. The casino employee who spins the wheel and the ball is called a croupier. Bets are placed as the wheel spins and paid out based on where the ball lands inside the wheel.

The roulette pockets are numbered from 1 though 36 and either a single zero or a single zero and a double zero. The zero(s) are green and the rest of the numbers are split evenly between red and black. The numbered pockets are not listed in numerical order on the wheel, but are listed in numerical order on the table, starting with the zero(s) at top and then left to right by threes down the table. So the second line has 1, 2 and 3.

All bets at the roulette table are called either inside or outside bets. The inside bets are all "inside" the numbers on the table, while the outside bets are all listed outside of the numbers on the table. Inside Roulette Bets

Straight Bet: The chip is placed on a single number.
Split Bet: Bet on 2 side by side numbers. Bet is placed on the line between the 2 numbers.
Street Bet: The bet is placed on the end line of a row, betting on all 3 numbers in that row.
Square or Corner Bet: A bet on 4 numbers, placed so a small part of the chip is in each of the four numbers squares.:
Sixline Bet: The chip is placed on the edge half on each of 2 rows. This is betting on all 6 numbers in the 2 rows.

Outside Roulette Bets

Even Money or 1 to 1 Bets: A bet covering 18, or half, the numbers. Black, Red, Odd, Even, 1 to 18 and 19 to 36 are even money bets.
Group Bets: A bet covering a group of 12 numbers. 1 to 12, 13 to 24 and 25 to 26.
Column Bet: A bet placed on any of the 3 columns on the table.
